Real rural Rajasthan
About Siana Sojourn
A village tourism experience shaped by Siana desert life, Rajput heritage, responsible travel and local employment.About Siana Sojourn
Real Rajasthan, lived in its villages
Siana Sojourn introduces travellers to the desert villages, Dhanis, hospitality and social spirit of rural Bikaner.
The area of Siana consists of a number of desert villages located in the heart of sand dune country. Predominantly inhabited by Rajputs, this desert region carries a rich legacy of valour, martial excellence, adventure and local folklore. The image of the desert warrior has long shaped stories of courage, glamour and romance that colour both Rajasthan history and the oral traditions of its people.
Across urban Rajasthan, erstwhile royal palaces and heritage buildings attract visitors as museums, resorts and luxury hotels. Rural Rajasthan, however, still has a quieter panorama waiting to be discovered. Mahatma Gandhi once said that real India lives in its villages. With this belief, entrepreneur Bhawani Singh Bhati created Siana Sojourn as a different kind of travel experience: a place where visitors can understand the life, work and everyday activities of people living in villages and Dhanis, the small desert settlements of Rajasthan.
Siana Sojourn is not planned as a conventional luxury resort. The purpose is comfort, authenticity and meaningful contact with village life. The location is carefully chosen, away from the sound and movement of urban chaos, where tranquillity prevails and travellers can experience a slower desert rhythm. What is offered here is real: no artificial oasis, no staged illusion and no overbuilt resort atmosphere. The stay reflects local homes, open spaces, traditional hospitality and the honest character of Siana.
Bhawani Singh Bhati has also shaped Siana Sojourn around responsible tourism. His aim is to create better employment opportunities for villagers and reduce migration to cities caused by lack of local work. After the birth of Siana Sojourn, six people from the village, including two women, began working as village guides after basic English training. These new local guides now help connect travellers with the region in a personal way.
This contact between villagers and guests can create awareness on both sides. Over time, it can support local education around rainwater harvesting, green cover, pollution control, health awareness and better quality of life. Siana Sojourn therefore stands for more than accommodation; it is a rural Rajasthan experience rooted in culture, dignity, community and the living heritage of the desert.
