Jeep Safari
Desert Excursions by Jeeps or Camels
Before the Jeep became the preferred ride for Rajasthan long-route cabbies, it enjoyed an iconic status and a glorious past. The rugged Indian 4x4 Jeep, descended from the world-famous Ford and Willys tradition, carries an old-world charm that belongs naturally to desert adventure. Today it roars again across Marusthal, the land of dunes, where restored Jeeps have become part of local pride and travel folklore.
The highlight of the desert experience is an adventurous drive in a rugged four-wheel Jeep, scrambling over dunes, climbing higher crests and moving through soft sand tracks. As small convoys move up and down the dunes, getting stuck can become part of the fun: guests step out, feel the cool sand underfoot, help with the moment, and then continue the ride.
Guests who prefer a calmer journey can choose a gentle desert encounter with smaller dunes. Drivers can arrange a serene ride that still carries the excitement of open desert views. Drives usually wind through dunes and streets, the valleys between dunes, covering the distance needed to find free-roaming wildlife herds, desert gazelles, bird species and occasional rarer sightings.
The landscape is spellbinding. There are stretches where only the wind moves across the frame of your sunglasses, and then suddenly village women in colorful finery may appear like a mirage. The excursion can include visits to desert homes of Bishnois, Rajputs and Meghwals, meetings with craftsmen such as carpenters, metal-smiths and cobblers, and a look at desert farming, flora and fauna adapted to this remarkable land.
Camel Trek
Camel Trek
Camels of Rajasthan are actually dromedary camels, and they are an integral part of life in the Thar Desert. Experiencing a camel ride through the dunes is a fantastic introduction to the landscape, the people and the slower rhythm of desert travel.
Mounting a camel for the first time is unlikely to be forgotten. Sitting atop one of these strange and lovely creatures, guests soon adapt to the gentle rocking motion. For most first-time riders, an hour into the distant dunes is usually enough to enjoy the experience comfortably, although longer and more strenuous rides may be arranged on request.
From the crest of a dune, the desert opens in every direction. Sunset is the most memorable moment: the light changes quickly, the sand turns gold, and the horizon becomes quiet and cinematic. Watch closely, because the spectacle moves by the seconds and becomes one of the most lasting memories of Siana.
