In & Around Siana Sojourn

Village walks, temple paths and desert life

The village walk at Siana Sojourn is a quiet window into simplicity, adaptability and the living culture of rural Rajasthan.

The concept of village walks is an old one at Siana Sojourn. The family believes that too many people have migrated from the village to the cities in search of a better future, and something needs to be done to sustain the simple, wholesome lifestyle of the village. The village walk is a small step in that direction.

It not only instills a sense of pride in the village folk, but also encourages them to preserve, maintain and showcase their culture and way of life. To a rapidly modernizing world, and to people living high-stress lives, the importance of a back-to-basics approach is finally dawning. The village walk at Siana Sojourn offers a small but meaningful window into that world.

Village walks, in contrast to Jeep and Camel safaris, offer a quieter and more informative way to experience the desert way of life around Siana Sojourn. The tour allows guests to share the fascinating culture of friendly people against the captivating beauty and tranquility of the vast desert.

The journey into the desert is an opportunity to experience village life at close quarters in one of the harshest environments in the world. In village Siana, there is an old temple on a small mound dedicated to Lord Bhairon, a manifestation of Lord Shiva in his Rudra form. It is only a 15-minute walk, and attending the evening prayers gives a better idea of Hindu worship and village prayer traditions.
